Hey everyone!  I hope you are as excited about smoothie month as we are!  I am trying to whip up some smoothie recipes in my spare time, but I’m currently working some crazy days on set so have called upon some blogger superwomen to contribute to smoothie month.  First up is one of my all-time favourite bloggers, Janetha from Meals and Moves.  Janetha is beautiful inside and out and represents true health to me.  She is fit, fierce, and healthy, but is always balancing her lifestyle with family time (with her husband and dogs) and delicious treats.  She was kind enough to put together this amazing guest post featuring a Pomberry Protein Shake recipe and some other delicious links.  Enjoy!

Hi there! My name is Janetha and I blog over at meals & moves. I am honored to be a part of Smoothie Month here on Healthy Tasty Cheap!

I am not a morning person. I never was one to wake up hours before having to be to work with plenty of time for a leisurely breakfast. I am a wake-up-at-the-very-last-minute-possible type of gal. Because of this horrible habit, I have learned that breakfast on the go is what works best with my lifestyle.

I drink a protein packed smoothie every morning on my way to work. Okay, maybe not every morning, but at least four out of five work days. On the days that I don’t have a smoothie for breakfast, I most definitely have one for lunch or a snack. There is something so refreshing about fresh fruit, milk and ice blended together to enjoy on a hot summer day.

I want to share one of my favorite smoothie recipes with you. I call it the “Pomberry Protein Shake” because it contains the combination of pomegranate juice and fresh berries.

I don’t often drink juice straight up. I feel like it does nothing for me in terms of satiety.  I could drink eight ounces juice for 140 calories and still be hungry, or I could eat 140 calories worth of fresh fruit for a very filling snack. However, I love juice! Specifically, I love pomegranate juice.

Instead of drinking this juice straight up, I incorporate it into a smoothie that is fabulous and filling—any time of day.

This shake is protein packed, berry filled and has a unique pomegranate cranberry tang. Absolutely delicious.

Author:
Recipe type: Smoothie
Serves: 1

Ingredients
  • ¾ cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk (or milk of choice)
  • ¼ cup (2 oz) pomegranate cranberry juice (or any variety of pomegranate juice)
  • 1 container Chobani Champions Verry Berry yogurt (or another 4 oz container of berry yogurt)
  • ½ serving of protein powder (any flavor) – I use Tera’s Whey Acai Berry, but vanilla would be great
  • ¼ cup frozen blackberries
  • ¼ cup frozen blueberries
  • ⅛ tsp xanthan gum*
  • ⅛ tsp guar gum*
  • 5 to 7 cubes of ice
  • Xanthan and guar gums are thickening agents. While they add no nutritional value to the smoothie, they do create a nice, voluminous and creamy texture. I never make a smoothie without them!

Instructions
  1. Combine all ingredients in a blender. Blend until smooth. Enjoy!
